Lubricating open gears: a serious task

Because open gears are not oil tight, oil cannot be used as a lubricant. The best option for lubricating open gear is the use of greases. Open gears often have to function under (extremely) harsh conditions. Gears like this are often exposed to the most annoying conditions such as: moisture, sand, dust, rain, cold, heat etc.

With open gears, it is therefore a requirement to use a grease that meets the following requirements:

• a correct viscosity determination
• a very strong adhesive lubricating film
• provide protection against corrosion
• Reduce wear and tear
• Good lubrication under varying conditions
