Preparation for the End of the Sailing Season

As the boating season draws to a close, careful preparation of your boat is essential to ensure you can sail again in the spring without any problems. Follow our detailed maintenance checklist to optimally protect your boat during winter storage.

Petrol and Diesel engines

Petrol engines:

  • Fuel treatment: Add Bardahl Fuel Stabilizer (item number 1164) to the gas tank and fill it completely. This product reduces gasoline evaporation, extends storage time up to 24 months without loss of quality, cleans the carburetor and fuel lines, prevents tank oxidation and lubricates valves and seats.

Diesel engines:

  • Fuel treatment: Add Bardahl BDC (item number 1200) to the summer diesel and fill the tank completely. This minimizes the chance of condensation. Consider using winter diesel for extra protection due to the higher concentration of additives, especially for storage in cold conditions.
  • Biocide treatment: If there are signs of bacterial growth, immediately add Bardahl Diesel Anti Bacteria (DAB, item number 2600) to protect filters and the high-pressure injection system (Common Rail) against blockages and damage.

General Maintenance

  • Water detection: Check the fuel tank for water with special detection paste on the dipstick. If water is present, use Bardahl Fuel Water Remover (item number 1082).
  • Sealing of filler openings: Ensure that the fuel tank filler opening is properly closed.
  • Rubber maintenance: Treat all rubbers with Bardahl Silicone Lube Spray (item number 66304) to prevent dehydration.
  • Tarpaulin: Protect your tarpaulin against dirt and moisture with Bardahl Waterproof Spray (item number 60804).
  • Cleaning: Use Bardahl Delta Clean BIO (item number 78500), a biodegradable organic cleaner, to efficiently remove dirt and grime.
  • Cooling system: Prevent freezing and corrosion in cooling systems with biodegradable Bardahl Coolant, effective down to -35°C (item number 83700).
  • Drinking water system: Protect with Zitrec Drinking Water Antifreeze, registered under no. 83600, against freezing up to -50°C, non-toxic and biodegradable.
  • Lubrication points: Check and maintain lubrication points with Bardahl Shipping Grease (item number 74300); Refill automatic lubrication systems and propeller shaft sleeves with Universal Shipping Grease.
  • Change the oil: Change the engine oil at the end of the season to prevent acid damage and dirt deposits. Also replace the oil filter.
